Taking Kolkata to Bangkok Flights for Business and Tourism

The popularity of Thailand as a business and tourism destination has soared manifold in the past few decades. It has emerged as one of the top shopping, sightseeing, leisure and adventure tourism destinations in the Asia Pacific region. Bangkok, its capital, is the main gateway, through which people from other parts of the world can visit its tourist and business centres. It is served by Suvarnabhumi Airport – the main hub for international flight arrivals in the country. Indians are one of the foremost travellers to Bangkok; services are operated from different cities to the Thai capital, including from Kolkata. Beaches, resorts, Buddhist temples, street markets, nightlife, wellness and recreational centres and many scenic natural locations are the major things, attracting tourists here from the East Indian metropolis.

Direct Operations

Kolkata had been a centre of learning for ages and one of the foremost trading outposts of the British during the colonial period. It has good transportation network with the rest of the nation and prominent cities of other countries. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, from where international flights are operated, is the main gateway to it. Among these, non-stop Kolkata to Bangkok flights are flown by low-cost carriers (LCCs) as well as luxury ones from both Thailand and India. While IndiGo and SpiceJet are the Indian LCCs, flying directly to Bangkok, Thai Airways is the Thai carrier, providing this service. These offer a total of four daily non-stop flights on this route: two by IndiGo and one each by the other two.

It takes 2 hours 35 minutes to fly between the two metropolises without any stop. This makes it extremely convenient for vacationers and businesspersons alike to travel to the city. Holiday seekers can go for a short vacation or shopping spree during the weekend without interrupting their work schedule on weekdays. Similarly, corporate travellers can go for a quick business meet and return the same day by opting for direct operations.

Connecting Flights

Though the frequency of daily non-stop flights between the two cities is limited, there are plenty of connecting options available for passengers. SilkAir, Jet Airways, Air India, Biman Bangladesh, Bangkok Airways and AirAsia fly to the Thai capital from that of West Bengal with one intermediary stop. More than 55 such options are available for passengers; besides, there are also those with two stops. International carriers fly through their regional hubs before reaching their destination. These take a little longer than direct ones to complete the journey. Passengers can take note of the flight duration and baggage transfer policies of airlines before booking tickets for connecting flights.

Due to increasing business and tourist air traffic, the year 2014-15 saw a significant number of people travel on the segment. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India reports that Thai Airways carried 99000 passengers while IndiGo ferried 79647 and SpiceJet 28669. Despite the latter two, offering the lowest airfare, and IndiGo, operating two non-stop services, they flew lesser people than the Thai national airline, a full-service carrier. This shows that cheap air tickets are not the only attraction for people, and the preference is generally based on non-price factors.
