Amanda grew up in a small town in Indiana, where she found solace in going to the town’s biggest attraction, Wal-Mart, to buy new CDs. Music was always her first love and the Catholic grade school she attended provided formal training on the clarinet and piano, allowing Amanda to frequently play piano and sing in the choir during school masses. She went on to receive a B.A. in Communication and Culture and a minor in Telecommunications from Indiana University in Bloomington in 2002. While in college, she DJed for IU’s radio station and worked for the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and the Waldron Arts Center, home to many cultural exhibitions, world music showcases, and indie band performances. While in Bloomington, Amanda was also fortunate enough to see Secretly Canadian bands such as The Magnolia Electric Company, Songs:Ohia, and Swearing at Motorists burst onto the local music scene.
A co-creator of the Nostalgic for Now pop culture blog, Amanda has also produced video segments for CET Connect, Cincinnati’s Public Media and television station, and has previously been published in PAUSE Magazine. She is also a voiceover talent for CET and CET Connect. She lists Bob Dylan and Bob Marley as two of the biggest musical influences in her life and has been lucky enough to see both Dylan and The Wailers in concert. She lives in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
