The Minnesota State Fair: A Really Big Deal.
I have recently been hipped to the fact that we are accruing a good amount of Minnesota followers here at TRACER – and I say that’s awesome! As it says in our manifesto, this blog “celebrates the vast musical talent … Continue reading

The Cleveland all-girl band HotChaCha will rattle Northside’s favorite laid-back watering hole The Comet this Friday the 13th. Since HotChaCha is a little bit dance, a little bit punk and apparently fully hot (according to the gospel of countless male … Continue reading

Guided By Voices Return to the Southgate House
We’ve got a little bit of breaking news for you this morning, courtesy of our friends at the Southgate House. This fall, Dayton’s favorite sons return to the Greater-Cincinnati for a very special reunion gig. I am, of course, talking about Guided By Voices, who are embarking on a brief US tour this year. Pavement and Guided by Voices reunions in the same year – just think about that for a minute. Continue reading

The 9th Annual Forecastle Festival
This year, in particular, Nederlander Entertainment and the fine folks behind Forecastle have really outdone themselves. TRACER’s Guide to the 2010 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival
One week from today, Amanda and I will once again make the trek to Manchester, Tennessee for the ninth annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. In the past, the weeks leading up this festival have seen us anxious and excited for four full days of live music in a generally pastoral setting. This year, though, Bonnaroo boasts a particularly uninspired (or, if I’m feeling gracious, “safe”) lineup, with Dave Matthews Band and Kings of Leon serving as the fest’s top-tier headliners. Now, that’s certainly better than Lollapalooza’s mind-boggling trinity of Soundgarden, Green Day, and Lady Gaga… but I wouldn’t exactly call that a compliment.
As always, though, Bonnaroo’s 2010 lineup features something for nearly everyone, including plenty of exciting acts (new and old) to make up for this year’s vanilla headliners. Here’s a quick rundown of what we’re most excited for. Continue reading

TRACER’s Guide to the 32nd Annual Taste of Cincinnati
Confession time: while I was busy wasting hour after hour roaming through the wild west of Rockstar Games’ so-amazing-it-hurts Red Dead Redemption during the last week and a half, Memorial Day and the annual Taste of Cincinnati simply snuck up on me. Gah!
Anyway… started in 1979 (the same year that I was started – zing!), Taste of Cincinnati is the nation’s longest running culinary arts festival, occupying much of downtown Cincinnati each Memorial Day weekend. If you’re like me, though, the culinary offerings come in at a distant second to the event’s musical offerings, which generally feature a wide range of local, regional, and national acts on multiple stages throughout the weekend.
This year’s Taste of Cincinnati is no different, featuring performances by well over 75 acts. It’s supposed to be a gorgeous weekend, so make an effort to see the following and you won’t be disappointed. Continue reading

Video Kills: Dawes – “When My Time Comes”
Although it’s only mid-May, Cincinnati’s MidPoint Indie Summer Concert Series will be upon us before you know it. It’s in this spirit that we present the official video for “When My Time Comes,” arguably the standout track from Dawes’ superb debut LP, North Hills. Dawes stops by Cincinnati’s Fountain Square for a free performance on August 6th, but you festival-minded folk can also catch them at Bonnaroo next month. You can find out more about MidPoint’s Indie Summer series here and more about MPMF-proper here. Continue reading

Video Kills: Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears – “Sugarfoot”
You know the drill by now, right? Today, we spotlight yet another act scheduled to perform at this month’s Nelsonville Music Festival in Southeastern Ohio. Today, it’s Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, performing “Sugarfoot” for the late, great WOXY.com at last year’s SXSW. Continue reading
