Sounds Abound: Kurt Vile – “In My Time”

Last month, Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Kurt Vile released his latest and, I would argue, strongest single: “In My TIme.” Give the song a listen and, if you feel the need, pick the 7″ up via Matador Records today. Continue reading

Sounds Abound: The Decemberists – “Down By The Water”

The season rubs me wrong. The summer swells anon. So knock me down, tear me up.

Sounds Abound: Sufjan Stevens – “I Walked”

Boy has there been a lot of activity on the Sufjan-front within the past week. First came the surprise All Delighted People EP, followed by the announcement of a forthcoming LP, and now we actually have a preview track from the The Age of Adz. Continue reading

Video Kills: The Byrds – “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere”

This little gem comes from the fine folks at Naturalismo, by way of My Proud Mountains (both of which are fantastic blogs, by the way). It’s Sweetheart of the Rodeo-era Byrds, joined by the one and only Earl Scruggs. For the uninitiated, “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” is a Dylan tune, penned during the time he spent with The Hawks (soon to be better known as The Band) in 1967. The song was revisited and reinterpreted by Dylan himself in the mid-1970′s and most recently emerged on the I’m Not There soundtrack, as lovingly covered by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. As this may just be my favorite Dylan song, you get to enjoy it twice. Thank me later. Continue reading
